Computer Monitor Recycling with California Recycles

With the blistering pace of technological development, it’s no surprise that consumers and businesses want to upgrade their computer equipment regularly. Unfortunately, this creates a problem, as most nations struggle to manage the amount of electronic waste they produce. The challenge of finding easy computer monitor recycling is a big contributor to the e-waste problem.

In the United States, as little as 15% of electronics is recycled. The rest ends up in landfills or stored for ages in closets and basements. This does not have to be the case. Some manufacturers offer take-back recycling problems, but if that service is not available, California Recycles can help with the rest. Bring all your old computer monitors and other unused electronic equipment to us. You clear out some space, lower your carbon footprint, and give a second life to useful components that can be refurbished and reused.

Why Recycle Computer Monitors?

Computer monitors, like all computer equipment, are electronic waste. They should not be discarded with your regular trash, and most curbside recycling services will not take monitors. Electronics are made from many materials, and specialized recycling services like California Recycles are needed to take apart the components and ensure that hazardous materials are disposed properly.

Monitors contain harmful chemicals, including lead, mercury, and cadmium, all of which can cause environmental harm and health problems if they’re not handled carefully. Monitors and other electronics that are exposed to the sun or crushed in landfills will release toxins into the air, earth, and water, harming the environment and eventually impacting human health.

Furthermore, we can salvage usable components from broken and discarded monitors and refurbish them. One monitor might have a broken screen; another might have a broken circuit board. Salvage the usable components, and in a flash we’ll have a refurbished computer that can be resold. We validate the function of all the monitors we process, keeping useful equipment from going to waste and minimizing the amount of material that we have to discard.

Computer monitor recycling is easy with California Recycles. Our recycling center in Northridge, California, accepts computer monitors—and most other electronic equipment—for free. Please unplug any cords before moving your monitor; monitors are heavy, and tripping hazards are dangerous. If the screen is broken, please place the monitor in a box to prevent lacerations. And we recommend transporting the monitor screen-down to limit the chance of it tipping over and breaking.

We’re open Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM, so fill up the trunk of your car with your unneeded electronics, and we’ll be happy to take it all out of your hands. If you’re unsure if we can accept something, contact us, and we’ll let you know.
